Montrose Museum was built in 1842 with funds raised by the Montrose Natural History and Antiquarian Society. One of the oldest purpose-built museums in Scotland, it is an elegant building constructed from pink sandstone which overlooks the historic Mid Links parks. The iconic landmark of Montrose Old Kirk Steeple is 100 metres up the Churchyard Walk, locally known as "the Kirkie Steps".

The museum has a wide range of displays of local interest covering archaeology, Montrose history, the picts, Montrose silver, maritime and natural history. The art gallery has a changing selection of local paintings and exhibitions and regularly features the following collections:

  • Dryleys Pottery Collection

  • Lord Gray Agate Collection

  • Montrose Archaeology Collection

  • Marquis of Montrose Collection

  • Jacobite Collection

  • Maritime Collection

  • Montrose Natural History Collection

  • William Lamb Studio
